GOD IS ON THE MOVE!

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NASB

hot-159386_640Every time I turn on the TV, or hear another news report about terrorism attacks, shootings, or yet another threat, I have a tendency is to wring my hands in desperation, and wonder what in the world is going on. If I’m not careful, I’ll lie awake in the middle of the night trying to solve the world’s problems!

Though heart-wrenching reports of violence and division threaten to steal our peace, I like to remember—God is not asleep, He is not silent – He is not apathetic to our cries for help. He is on the move!  Jesus said,

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NASB

Every day we have a choice. We can wring our hands, or we can choose to remember what our God has already done! In Jeremiah 33:3 (NASB) he promises:

“Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

Great and mighty things which we do not know? Yep. I get that. Last year at this time I had no idea of all the great and mighty things we’d see Him do on the mission field this year. I had no idea of all the ways we would see His hand at work this year. But we do. And His Word assures us that even though evil seems to grow each day, He will continue to move in mighty ways. In the end, He wins, and if we know and accept Him, so do we.

Remember, Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. God will do what we cannot. The humbling fact is—He chooses to work through us. We are His hands and feet in a world without hope, a world without Him.

GOD IS ON THE MOVE, but our time is short. Look to the One who created you, and let Him show you how He wants to use you to be His hands and feet to help a hurting world! He will you know!

Faith of a Mountain Goat

“He makes my feet like the feet of a deer. He helps me stand on the highest places.”
2 Samuel 22:34, (NLT)

mountain-goat-2-1479086-639x852The mountain view was incredible as we drove through the countryside of Israel. White mountain goats dotted the surface of majestic but barren peaks. They didn’t worry about the giant 5,000 foot cliffs, the loose rocks and boulders that threatened to trip them. They were in their comfort zone. They walked as confidently as if they were on a level patch of the softest grass. It was as if they knew their Maker had designed them to be there, for this place to be home. It was as if they knew He had them in the palm of His hand.

Oh, to have the faith of a mountain goat, to understand that you are in the place and plan for which the Lord has designed you. Imagine the incredible peace we would all feel in our hearts if we knew without a doubt we were in the place, fulfilling the purpose for which the Lord has designed us.

Most of us can relate to having feelings of doubt caused by NOT knowing if we are in that place. I sure did – for years!

When I was a teeny-bopper in high school I was insecure in just about everything I tried to do. I didn’t feel “good” at anything. I knew what I “liked” to do, but that didn’t necessarily mean I was good at it. Quite to the contrary, I often felt like a failure because I would fail at something. I felt that if I failed it meant I was “less than” and my confidence and security would take a hit. “Maybe I’ll finally find something I am good at,” I thought. Tom didn’t have that problem. He seemed to be good at whatever he did – athletics, grades – whatever he wanted to do. At least that’s the way I saw him. I didn’t realize until years later that he had insecurities too.

Through the years I began to understand that we are all created with a purpose. We are gifted by our Creator with talents and abilities He intends to be used for Kingdom purposes. And just because we fail at something doesn’t mean we aren’t gifted to do that very thing.

My Granny used to have a saying that has stuck with me since I was a little girl. When I’d say those proverbial words “Granny, I can’t”, she would say, “Can’t never did do nothing.” She made me step outside my comfort zone enough to do whatever it was I needed to do. Then an amazing thing would happen. Whatever it was I couldn’t do – would be done. And when it was done it was no longer out of my comfort zone.

Who knows, maybe the very thing you feel you “can’t do”, is the very thing God will call you to do.

I was for me… my face was blood red with embarrassment as a crowd of 900 stared back at me…

WHAT DO DIETS & ELEPHANTS HAVE IN COMMON? PART 2

Romans 6:14-16a NLB

“Sin need never again be your master, for now you are no longer tied to the law where sin enslaves you, but you are free under God’s favor and mercy. Does this mean that now we can go ahead and sin and not worry about it? (For our salvation does not depend on keeping the law, but on receiving God’s grace!) Of course not! Don’t you realize  you can choose your own master? You can choose sin (with death) or else obedience (with acquittal)

So, as I said yesterday, when tempted to follow our propensities, we need to refocus! Quick! Before our thoughts of ice cream and chocolate fudge syrup get the best of us! You see, what we think about it is what we will do. Paul gave us the secret in verse 14, when he reminds us we are free from sin…from poor choices… after we’ve received God’s forgiveness through Christ Jesus.

But we forget that we are free.

file0001097846332Like the baby elephant named Dufus, a cute and energetic little guy, born into the circus. At birth, the keeper chained Dufus to a stake in the ground. With a desire for freedom, he pulled against the chain and felt the painful resistance.  Having no idea God created him to overcome the resistance, Dufus soon submitted to the insignificant power of the chain. He gave up his freedom and submitted to a lie.

The lie we often submit to is one straight from the pit of hell!  You know, the lie that says we can’t break free from the chains of our past, or the sin that beckons us today.  Unlike the circus elephant, we can know the truth, and that truth will set us free! The truth is this:  Jesus already paid the price for our sin, and the moment we accept Him, He sets us free. Our chains to sin have been broken. The power to overcome is in us, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

“Sin need never again be your master, for now you are no longer tied to the law where sin enslaves you, but you are free under God’s favor and mercy.”

So, let’s you and I not be a Dufus. Let’s recognize that we are free from the power of sin. We are not tied to it anymore. Because once the Son has set us free – we are free indeed!

 Until next time,
